Ingredients:
1 1/2 lbs hamburger1 Tbsp salt
1/2 large onion, grated
1/2 bell pepper, chopped (optional)
1/4 cup water
1 Tbsp vinegar (I use organic apple cider vinegar, but any kind will do.)
1 1/2 cups ketchup
4 tsp brown sugar
Hamburger Buns
Instructions:
- Brown hamburger with salt and onions.
- Drain off fat.
- Add water, vinegar, ketchup, & brown sugar.
- Cook, stirring until sauce thickens...about 5 minutes.
- Serve hot on hamburger buns.
Serves 5 adults
Bulk Freezing
Ingredients:
10 lbs hamburger
6 Tbsp salt
3 large onions, grated
3 bell peppers, chopped (optional)
1 3/4 cups water
6 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
10 cups ketchup
1/2 cup + 1 Tbsp brown sugar
Instructions:
- Follow cooking instructions above.
- Let cool completely.
- Write reheating instructions on 6 or 7 zip top freezer bags with a sharpie, or print freezer safe labels:
- Sloppy Joes
- Date
- Option 1: Thaw in a dish in the bag in the refrigerator overnight. Reheat in microwave or skillet.
- Option 2: Remove from bag-place in a microwave safe bowl and heat- stirring often.
- Serve hot on hamburger buns
Use within 4 to 6 months.
